Exceeding expectations since 1922
When Texas cousins C.N. Williamson and E.E. "Colonel" Dickie decided to leave the vehicle-and-harness business to buy the U.S. Overall Company with a few friends, they never dreamed it would give birth to the global workwear leader of today. The company started out with one product: the durable, all cotton, button fly overall. In 1922, the two men bought the company from their friends and renamed it Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company. They expanded the product line to include khaki pants and children’s playsuits, and by 1930, the company’s sales topped half a million dollars.
When the Great Depression hit, the stalwart Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company exceeded expectations again. The company founders refused their own salaries and hired 200 new associates. In 1941, Williamson-Dickie answered the call to serve our country when the U.S. Government selected the company to manufacture uniforms for the armed services in World War II.
In the 1950s, Texas oilmen introduced their favorite Dickies products to oil fields in the Middle East. Williamson-Dickie then expanded internationally into European and Middle Eastern markets. We continued to broaden our product line throughout the decades, creating a variety of work garments ranging from the staple work pants and work shirts to women's workwear, chore coats and denim jeans. Williamson-Dickie also led the industry with innovation, adding the patented permanent press process and the first use of zippers in work pants.
Through the years, Williamson-Dickie has added several brands to our portfolio. In 1999, we acquired the Workrite Uniform Company, the industry leader in flame-resistant uniforms. In 2008, we acquired Terra and Kodiak, leaders in the footwear industry and inventors of the first truly waterproof boot. These companies fit naturally with Williamson-Dickie because they embrace and represent the same values, standards, and quality that Williamson-Dickie has advocated since 1922. Every brand in the Williamson-Dickie family stands for the toughness and pride of hardworking people everywhere.
